Festival of Life

Have just got back from the Festival of Life – best bits for me were (in no particular order):
1 Kate Magic’s talk (always lovely to hear Kate)
2 Laura’s chocolate ganache pie – best lunch ever!
3 The news that Vantra is opening soon at 11 Soho Street in London (from the people who brought you Vita Organic)
4 Baobab powder delish, can’t wait to use it in some yummy raw concoctions
5 Seeing Gina again and trying her delicious sun-dried cherry tomatoes and olives (and going home with my bag full of them)

Only disappointed by the fact that Paradox wasn’t on until 8pm so I missed him – and the fact that the venue was just TOO full!

Workshops and amazing new raw chocolate ebook available!

I have just a couple of places left for my next workshop on Sunday 19th September, so if you would like to come and learn some super simple and super delicious raw food recipes including raw crackers, mock salmon pate and superfood balls then get in touch!

Also some very exciting news is that Liz Bygrave of Sweet Sensations has completed her much anticipated raw chocolate recipe ebook! I have tried most of the recipes myself and they are all lovely. Many of them require just a coffee grinder and a mixing bowl which makes a change for those of us who tend to use the vita mix for everything!

I am pleased to be able to offer a 10% discount as well: click here and apply the discount code CHOC3.

I hope you enjoy the recipes as much as I do!

New York

RIP Adelina – opened and closed before I had a chance to visit.
Welcome Rockin’ Raw in Brooklyn – I had the Raw Boy sandwich which was truly delicious – and only a short subway trip from Union Square. Please everybody support this amazing raw cafe so that I can go again on my next trip here!
Other highlights:
Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller Center – fantastic 360 degree views.
The High Line Park in the Meatpacking District. A beautiful concept, shame there is already evidence of chewing gum on it.
More and more takeaway raw food in the health food shops
The tasting menu at Pure Food and Wine – an opportunity to try almost everything on the menu!
And finally – the Union Square Farmers Market – for when you’ve had just too much gourmet raw food and need some plain salad leaves and heirloom tomatoes.

I am in awe

I have just witnessed something amazing. A butterfly (cabbage white I guess) was fluttering around my vegetables – I just assumed it was going for the kale-ish leaves that are growing (must label plants in future) – and then realised it kept on going back to the same place again and again. I went over to take a look and realised that there were two other white butterflies trapped in some plastic mesh that I had placed over the plants.
Of course I moved the mesh to let them out and the three butterflies flew away. So – the butterfly that kept on returning was obviously trying to free the two trapped ones. Which means that anyone who tries to tell you that insects don’t have a brain or feelings is mistaken!
I am still slightly in awe by what happened. I like to think that it knew I was there and was trying to get my attention – but possibly that is going a bit too far!

How many people will start copying this do you think?
Wedding dance.
I can’t decide whether I would have liked something like this at my wedding or not!
